Chislehurst School for Girls Sixth Form Fire Alarm

We installed and commissioned a new Category L1 fire alarm system in the sixth form blocks at Chislehurst School for Girls, working for Lightning Safety Systems. The system runs on an Advanced MxPro 5 two loop panel with 178 Hochiki devices. We networked it to the main school fire alarm, so staff see the whole site on one system. We completed the work over the 2026 summer break, ready for the new term.

Why It Matters in a School

A school holds hundreds of students and staff, and every one of them needs to hear or see the alarm and get out quickly. An L1 system puts detection in every area, so a fire is picked up early wherever it starts. Because the new panel is networked to the main school system, an alarm in the sixth form blocks shows on the main panel straight away. Visual beacons warn anyone with hearing loss and anyone in a noisy classroom or workshop.

What We Did

• Installed the Advanced MxPro 5 panel, cabling and all 178 Hochiki devices
• Fitted 63 optical smoke detectors, 2 heat detectors and 18 manual call points for full L1 cover
• Fitted 46 sounders and 27 visual beacons so everyone gets the warning
• Networked the new panel to the main school fire alarm system
• Programmed and proved the cause and effect, including 13 relay outputs and 7 input modules
• Tested every device, checked its location text and measured alarm sound levels
• Checked standby batteries and handed over the certificates, zone plan and logbook

Working With Main Contractors

Lightning Safety Systems brought us in to deliver the fire alarm package from start to finish. We installed the system, commissioned it and certified it, all within the summer holiday window. If you are a contractor with a fire alarm package to fill, we can take it on for you.
